The Weekend Collections: Everyone’s Story Can Teach You, Somehow

I used to think that the best way to learn was through change and constantly generating new experiences. I think, though, that returning to old, familiar places can teach you a great deal, as well. It’s all about the way you see, your openness to learn, your ability to gauge your growth.

I’m cinched between a whole lot of beginnings and endings right now and it is kind of an exciting place to be. My biggest struggle is staying present. I like to dream about kicking off on new adventures. I like to think about being somewhere else. I know the danger, though, of constantly living up in your head and not coming down to enjoy the present. I’ve been focusing on being intentional with my conversations, my actions, and where I choose to be. In old places and in new places, you can always learn and grow by exploring the perspectives of other people. Everyone has their own life experience, and I try to listen to others as though they have some kind of truth or wisdom to pass on. Everyone’s story can teach you, somehow.

It’s how you see. That’s a theme that has been running through my life recently: there are a hundred different ways to see the same situation. As long as we keep that in mind, we can appreciate, and learn from, the stories of others. We can enhance our present experience no matter where we are.

I hope this weekend is restful for you, and that you take hold of opportunities to listen to another person’s story.
